Une Pause

A nourishing space for reflection, expression and intentional living.

I have been writing logically for a long time. Whether it is a perfectly worded gentle reminder to a colleague, a master’s thesis, or a thank you note, I have written with a specific outcome in mind for a long time. I have known the message I need to convey and the sources/evidence/experts I will need to include in order to make my point.

This is a great skill to have in a world that functions like a well oiled machine – i.e. in fast paced working environments where you are constantly asked why you did what you did. But how does one adjust the way a message is sent out in a blog? How does one make that head-to-heart connection that allows words to pour out effortlessly – words that are meant to be shared for the sake of sharing one’s own experience? In other words, there is nothing to prove, nothing to defend. Just share how we perceive what we see in the world and delight in having been lucky to experience it.

My original intent in creating this blog was share why art is important for society. Logically, I thought I’d be using my masters in Public Affairs and other professional experience to highlight the political side of things in reference to art. Though I will still talk about this when the time’s right, I have come to some important realizations during my time off (more on that below), which has influenced how I’ll blog – and how I’ll focus on this topic in a more personal way.

For one, art history, politics and other factual information is all over the internet. There’s nothing new or hidden anymore; everything is a click away. Not having an art background, I will be shifting away from only talking about art history because this is something I am not well versed in, and is also something that isn’t the right fit for me. I’d like to focus on the art that I come across – whether it’s in a museum, or a piece on the sidewalk – and share why it matters to me. Being new to the blogging community, one of my focuses will be to include my voice in what I share. I want to share why something is beautiful, bewitching, confusing, or fabulous, to me in hopes that it may resonate with you, as well as get your take on it.

One of my personal goals for this blog will be to give myself permission to share with the blogging universe how things make me feel. As I mentioned earlier, having been in school for a long time and now a full time job, the emphasis to communicate “only the facts” as a neutral entity is strong and can overpower your life. There is something to be said for passionate people who take their energy and create greatness, whether it be artists, writers, poets, or chefs. Our society idolizes the logical and distances itself from the emotional, but I believe both work hand in hand to create our perception. Being one (logical, passionate) should not mutually exclude you from being the other – both can exist in harmony. Mere regurgitation of facts still leave a void in the soul that reason cannot fill – life is meant to be lived with its ups and down and those are only experienced by those who feel.

I am visiting New York and am enchanted by the city. I am going to various museums and each time come away with an appreciation for artists and their art in a way that invigorates my soul. I’ll be sharing the experience of my trip on this blog, as well as posting pictures of the amazing, amazing beauty I’ve come across. That trip is a beautiful dream and I am lucky to experience New York in this crisp, cold weather as the City is on the brink of blossoming into Spring.
